Have you ever experienced strong periods of sychronicity? A time when the world around you seems to be reading your mind and giving you the answers to your questions in the form of a magical trail of breadcrumbs?
Synchronicity (German: Synchronizität) is a concept, first introduced by analytical psychologist Carl Jung, which holds that events are “meaningful coincidences” if they occur with no causal relationship yet seem to be meaningfully related
Lately, I feel like this phenomina is practically bashing me over the head…but in a good way. My experiences with synchronicity began a few weeks ago, ever since I started work on a new sci-fi novel.
I’ve been outlining the plot, thinking about social structure, technologies, and developing characters. The strange thing is that everywhere I turn, I am crossing paths with things – whether on TV, the news, online articles, or conversations – relating to my story or subjects I have an researching.
Certainly, this can all be brushed aside as a simple series of coincidences. But according to Carl Jung: Coincidence is only an indicator of an underlying reality
To look more closely at Jung’s observations:
The Synchronistic Model
Jung based the synchronistic model on three characteristics of spiritual potential.
1. Meaningful Coincidence
Random events happen sometimes with very specific, personal meaning.
2. Causal Connection
Despite there being no apparent material cause and effect, there is an undeniably profound personal significance, and so an apparently intentional connection at play.
The indication that all of this happens within a kind of shared field of divinity, in communion with a greater whole.
Across most life experiences, these three aspects actually do work to describe something that happens in everyone’s life, even though no one knows exactly how
I don’t know the explanation to this kind of woven web of seemingly interrelated happenings, but it’s actually really cool, if a little bit freaky at the same time. I will continue the curious ride without complaint and enjoy the benefits while I can!
Carry on universe – I appreciate the help!
